Sin Is Serious!
As I was doing my daily bible reading, Luke 17:1-2 stuck out to me. Jesus was speaking to His disciples when He said, “Temptations to sin are sure to come, but woe to the one through whom they come! It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck and he were cast into the sea than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin.”
First off, I want to point out that Jesus tells us that temptations to sin are inevitable. We’re all going to be tempted whether we like it or not. It’s up to us to CHOOSE to respond to that temptation in a way that pleases God. But what really caught my attention is “woe to the one THROUGH WHOM they come.” Jesus says it’s better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone around their neck! For those who don’t know what a millstone is, it’s a huge, round, flat stone used for grinding grain into flour. The weight of a millstone can range from 200 to 2800 pounds! If one is tossed into the sea with this around their neck, they’re guaranteed to drown. And with something that heavy around your neck, it’s possible that you’ll die before even drowning!
Sin is just that serious. Tempting others to sin is just that displeasing to the Lord. I want you to imagine this millstone around your neck each time you sin or may be causing others to do so. I want you to imagine sinking deeply into the sea, knowing that it’s impossible for you to come back up. And don’t forget, this is better than tempting others to sin. If sin is that serious to the Lord, then it should be that serious to us. Thank you for talking with me. Let’s walk with Him.
